1. Background
Chin state, the most remote and isolated state in Myanmar has the population of over 5 Million and the state is composed with 9 towns, 8 major groups with diverse ethnic groups, speaking more than 45 dialogues. The rural population is 80 percent where the urban is 20 percent. Chin state is currently facing with both brain drain and unemployment in its youth population due to the country's economic and political instability.
Currently, there are one (CAD) Local NGO and 5 (UNDP,Merlin,GRET,KMSS, and Solidarities) INGOs in Chin. However, none of all about mentioned but CAD are providing capacity building, youth leadership trainings and English Enrichment program. There is no concrete or outstanding project in Chin that focuses entirely for the sustainable youth capacity building that covers youths from the whole state and various sectors. This program is a newly established and managed by CAD on a group of proactive youths with various backgrounds and who sees the urgent/important need in the state. This proposed project introduces a new concept of capacity building in youths by bringing youths with huge gaps, backgrounds, skills and education in one place together, giving enough time to develop friendship, transparency, common interest and synergy among them. Therefore, this program intends to fill in the missing gap by providing the youths with a space to grow with passion through mobilization, empowerment, transparency and accountability.
2. Objectives
The overall objective of this program is to achieve the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) through the power of youths and is empowered to choose and fulfill these various MDGs based on the needs in the youths and in their communities.
This program has 4 main objectives,
a) Building a common ground, trust, teamwork, network among youths from the same location but with diverse sectors such as government sector, NGO, INGO and private sector.
b) Fulfilling needs of young people in education and development by encouraging youths to take management and decision making roles in the state, country and abroad.
c) To prevent brain drain and promote job creation in the state, country and in abroad
d) Sustainable development in human resource and the communities through youths.
3. Results /output
Output 1: Over 1500 nos of books (old) and 19 nos of books (new) including one cassette were granted by British Embassy
Out put 2: A total number of 25 young and future capable leaders are participating in English Enrichment program
Output 3: Between 10 and 15 members of bible students and new staffs in NGOs are being guided for their paper writing, assessment writing and writing job application
Output 4: More than 30 members of young and adult people have made library cards.
4. Main activities
In order to achieve Output 1, More copies of books have been made and more books and various kinds of books are still needed.
In order to achieve Output 2, English Grammar & speaking Class has been conducted as year around program in CAD Millennium Centre. For each Class, average 30 participants will be included. The class will mainly include once in a week mobilization and empowerment, community development skills, social entrepreneurship, stress management and problem solving skills. Each topic will take one-day time alternatively of weekly.
In order to achieve Output 3, We will build a program of self study group. For this program, more and other materials are needed to be used. English Enrichment Forum is planed to be conducted every Saturday. Resource persons from outside will be invited for the program. More books which meet international development, social science, IT knowledge, knowledge of business are needed. All those who are interested will be allowed to participate in the program.
In order to achieve Output 4, English class will be conduct year round. The present program is seeking for a constant program. For better cooperation and running of the program, other resource persons will be invited to share knowledge and encourage the participants in the class.
